Symptoms of Early Onset Colon Cancer

Unlike older adults, most younger adults experience symptoms of colorectal cancer. But, because of their age, these symptoms are often misdiagnosed as hemorrhoids or stomach ache [mayo clinic]. Patients with early onset colon cancer are often diagnosed at advanced stages, which makes treatment more challenging. So, being able to recognize these symptoms and advocating for yourself is crucial.

  • Persistent abdominal pain: bloating and cramping

  • Rectal bleeding: blood in stool or on toilet paper

  • Changes in bowel habits: diarrhea or constipation

  • Anemia (low iron): feeling tired or weak

  • Unintentional weight loss and loss of appetite

  • Nausea and vomiting
